Shopping in Sualkuchi
Sualkuchi is a crafts village where you will find some of the best specimens of craftsmanship.
From silk sarees, dresses and scarves, the place is also renowned for its bamboo handicrafts such as baskets and fans etc. You can buy these products at local markets of the village.
Hatisatra
A beautiful monastery of Sualkuchi, Hatisatra is also one of the biggest monasteries in the village. Dedicated to Lord Krishna, the place spreads the splendid message of Vaishnavism culture.
Established by Kanu Bura Thakur, a saint from Nalanga, this monastery today attracts pilgrim in large number and becoming a popular tourist attraction as well.
Sidheswar Devalaya
Sualkuchi is a village where many God and Goddess are worshipped. Sidheswar Devalaya is one of the major temples of this silk village dedicated to Lord Shiva and was renovated by the Ahom king Shiba Singha.
Situated in the south-west part of Sualkuchi on the Sidheswari Hill, this ancient temple is flocked with devotees. Long queues can be witnessed especially during the month of 'Bhole Bom', when one can experience a state of trance and divinity.
Brahmaputra River
Nestled in the bosom of the great Himalayan mountains, the Brahmaputra is a 'Trans-Boundary River' that flows through China, India, and Bangladesh. Among the many towns and cities, it covers on the way, is the quaint town of Sualkuchi.
Sualkuchi is situated in the Kamrup area in Assam. The lush scenery of the Sualkuchi Forest range shielding the massive breadth of the river bed is a sight to behold! The agricultural fields that stand in stark contrast also present an enchanting view. A visit in the evening to the banks of River Brahmaputra will leave you in a complete trance. The sight it offers is spellbinding with the sunset bathing the river in multiple hues of the dusk.
Hajo
At a distance of about 24 km from the city of Guwahati, Hajo adores the banks of Brahmaputra. An ancient pilgrim centre, Hajo finds its uniqueness in being an attraction for three religions - Hindu, Muslims and Buddhists. Shrines dedicated to Durga, Shiva, Vishnu, Buddha and major Muslim saints are found all over this place, making it an important pilgrimage centre for people from all these three religions. The most famous temple is the Hayagriva Madhava Mandir which also attracts Buddhists as it is believed to be the site where Buddha attained Nirvana while the Powa Mecca Mosque finds popularity among Muslims.
